Hotel restaurant and pizzeria in Tarvisio

The town of Tarvisio, set like a gem in a natural expanse of rich green, lies at an elevation of 750 metres. Its town centre boasts a rich collection of shops offering products of every kind, including those of local artisans and traditional local specialty foods. It also offers visitors a wide variety of sports opportunities, from simple walks in the woods to climbs up the highest peaks of the Julian Alps, or tennis, golf, horseback riding, or cycling along a new bicycle path that leads right into Austria. In the winter, the snow-covered mountains invite mountain and long-distance skiing, skating, dogsledding, and wonderful long-distance treks on snowshoes.

Hotel Raibl is located right in the central area of Tarvisio, just some 500 metres from the ski lifts and superb ski runs.

Hotel Raibl welcomes groups and tours.

Tarvisio in the Winter

Almost half of the entire region is covered by mountains, which form a natural boundary with Austria and Slovenia. Yet it is an environment on a human scale, pristine, enjoying a climate of lengthy seasons and good snowfall even at lower elevations. Thus its ski runs and establishments offer a vast range of possibilities for every level of skier, yet areas are seldom crowded even at peak periods. And long-distance skiers will find loop trails that present varying levels of challenge.

During the winter, Tarvisio is a veritable paradise for those who love skiing, comfortable amenities, and untouched nature. Skiers can enjoy, in fact, an area that boasts over one hundred kilometres of ski runs, which offers absolutely fabulous possibilities for long-distance skiing, a sport that ranks #1 in this area.

Nor will downhill skiers be disappointed: they will enjoy up-to-date lifts ands runs with good snow cover, since the ski establishments all have powerful snowmaking equipment (which adapt their work to the exposure to the sun, avoiding creation of ice patches) and wide runs with breathtaking views into the immensity.

The world of skiing possibilities is far from being the only reasons why the area has a strong attraction for tourists. The Tarvisio area boasts night clubs, dancing establishments, pubs, restaurants, meeting places of all levels and styles that will fulfil anyone’s dreams for snow sports and relaxing pleasures.

Tarvisio in the Summer

Under the stewardship of Tarvisio is an area among the very finest in the eastern Alps, with its protected forests, the Parco Regionale di Fusine Laghi, and the Santuario del Monte Lussari, symbol of the peaceful encounter between the three distinctive European ethnic groups.

Alpine and Nordic and Alpine skiing, as well as shopping, are only some of the many opportunities visitors enjoy There are a host of other possibilities as well, since Tarvisio hosts museums and various exhibitions that take place throughout the year. In summer, the striking side valleys in the Tarvisio area are ideal for strolls and hiking. A dense network of trails and, for the more expert, rock climbing routes of various levels of difficulty all lead to numerous well-equipped rifugi, or mountain hostels, in the Julian Alps.

Or spend time exploring the town. From Tarvisio’s Via Romana, a street on ancient origins at the upper edge of the city, take Via delle Pinete. You will quickly reach the Parco Cervi, Stag Park, near the trailhead for the path that winds along the bottom of the slopes of Monte Borgo.
Just before the park, take the small footbridge over the Rio Borgo and take the path the gently ascends with easy steps of wood, and enters a wooded hillside particularly impressive for its centuries-old red fir and beech.
